The Electronic Security Systems Designer/Engineer at CENSEO focuses on designing a variety of electronic security systems (ESS) for the built environment. These include access control systems, video surveillance systems, door intercoms, intrusion detection systems, panic/duress alarm systems and all related cabling, infrastructure, and equipment. This position will also include some design of structured cabling systems to support ESS, telecom data/voice, and other communications systems. This position supports the entire project lifecycle, from initial concepts to design development and bid documents, to construction-phase support. This role demands a strong technical background in planning and design of electronic security systems.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create detailed ESS designs with complete drawings and specifications throughout all project phases.
  • Contribute to complex engagements and work directly with internal and external team members to develop project documents, budgets, and timelines.
  • Conduct research to conceptualize and recommend the appropriate technology options and ESS design approaches based upon the client’s project requirements.
  • Provide technical expertise and coordination information to support the ESS needs assessments, planning, and design.
  • Develop ESS project construction cost estimates.
  • Evaluate and effectively communicate ESS technical design solutions to design team members, owners, architects and contractors.
  • Design and document the equipment, cabling and pathways required for the building’s electronic security systems and other communication systems.
  • Prepare professional reports and communicate design recommendations directly with clients.
  • Prepare ESS drawings (using Autodesk Revit) and technical specifications (using Word).
  • Conduct construction site visits for periodic observations, system checkout and compliance evaluation.
  • Manage the project’s technical requirements, deadlines, deliverables, and budget.
  • Follow CENSEO’s protocol and quality assurance standards.
  • Work in-person at CENSEO’s physical office located in Kailua, HI or Denver, CO.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • 2+ years of experience in designing electronic security systems (ESS) for buildings.
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering, architecture, building construction management, electronics, or a closely related discipline required.
  • Experience in the building design and construction industry and a clear understanding of construction and renovation project phases including Program, Conceptualization, Schematic Design, Design Development, Construction Documentation, Construction Administration, and Commissioning.
  • Proficient in Autodesk AutoCAD, Autodesk, Revit (1+ year, or become proficient within 6 months of hire), and Microsoft Office 365 software programs.
  • Expertise in applying concepts and design principles relevant to the position.
  • Certification of APP / PSP / CPP (through ASIS) and/or RCDD (through BICSI) is desired.
  • Time management skills with a track record for meeting deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze complex issues and communicate concise messages.
  • High level of problem-solving and technical troubleshooting skills.
